All owners of a property in France must pay French property tax every year, in October. This year French property tax is due by October 15, 2024.
The good news is that if you bought your Parisian home or pied-a- terre this year, you already paid this tax as part of the closing fees when you signed the deed with the notaire. This means you will not have to pay French property tax until October 2025.
🇫🇷 My advice:
If you do not reside in France but you want to make sure you receive your "taxe foncière" notice online next year (usually in September), you should create an account on the French tax website by completing the special
You will need to provide the following information:
Full Name
Date and Place of birth
Email address
Postal address abroad
Once you will have completed the form, you will receive an email with your dedicated tax identification number and you will have access to your tax payer dashboard. You will even have the option to pay your taxe foncière electronically.
🇫🇷 You won't have to calculate your property tax or how much you will have to pay, the notice will indicate how much you will owe the government and the due date.
🇫🇷 If you paid French property tax in 2023, your French property tax this year should be the same as (or close to) what you paid last year.
🇫🇷 If you bought your property this year, the notaire and I informed you how much French property tax was due last year so you have a good idea of how much you will owe next year.
Note that the French tax government website has a space dedicated for English speakers.
